Oak beam replacement
The ceiling in this lounge was supported by a rotten and bowed oak beam that could not be repaired. This was replaced with a new beam to make the building safe and was later distressed and treated to blend in with the genuine period oak beams used elsewhere in the ceiling.
The final result was an excellent match for the original 16th century beams, this restored oak beam can be seen in The Malt House Gallery (see left of photo).
